MTGLexicon is a Magic: the Gathering community & twitch stream that was founded in 2015. It is one of the first live Magic the Gathering twitch streams in existed and pioneered many live streaming technologies including remote webcam gaming. In the recent years MTGLexicon has spread live streaming to Dungeons & Dragons. As the lead visual designer, My job is to portray the information in the games in a way the viewers can easily read. My job has also involved logo design & creating a style guide for the stream.

Logo Design

Designing the logo for MTGLexicon was quite the learning experience. At first I incorporated the lotus for the main design since the lotus is a prominent figure in Magic: the Gathering. I also colored the petals to match the 5 core elements in the game.

After reviewing the first iteration I found out the color pattern was incorrect and did not match the “WUBRG” pattern the game is known for. I researched a little bit used the correct color pattern, used textures and created a few different designs that I felt were more cohesive.

The client liked the idea of the “WUBRG” pattern but felt the overall design was generic and did not capture the unique “dive bar feeling” the stream wanted to provide. After some more research, I came up with the goblet with gauntlet design which captured the competitive nature of the stream while the “WUBRG” pattern is present through the gems on the goblet. After a few refinements we finalized a logo design.
